4 Pro Tips on Cleaning Your Fabric Graphics

At trade shows, events or hanging in your office lobby, things can take a beating; even your beautiful fabric graphics. Don’t fret, fabric graphics are pretty easy to clean and take care of. Here are our top tips to make sure your displays continue to look great and last longer.

Melamine Foam Sponge

For light spot and dirt removal we recommend the use of a melamine foam sponge like a “Mr. Clean® Magic Eraser.” These can be used dry or with water. Try using the sponge dry to begin with. This will easily remove many simple dirt and dust marks. Wet the sponge with water if the results are not satisfactory using it dry.

Carpet Cleaning Solution

For extra-difficult stains use the melamine foam sponge in conjunction with a carpet cleaning solution such as “Resolve® Carpet Cleaner.” Soak the stain with the cleaner and let rest for one minute before rubbing with the sponge. We have found this combination will remove most stains satisfactorily without damaging the fabric.

Stain Remover Pen

Another great way to deal with extra-difficult stains is to use a stain remover pen such as a “Clorox® Bleach Pen” (do not use regular Clorox bleach) or “Tide® to Go” with the melamine foam sponge. Follow the same method as with the carpet cleaner by soaking the stain and letting it rest for about one minute before rubbing with the sponge. This method has also been very successful in removing most stains without damaging the fabric.

Washing Machine

For laundering the whole graphic, machine wash in cold water on gentle cycle with a gentle fabric detergent. Air drying is best, but graphics may be tumble dried with no heat or low heat. Machine drying is also a great way to freshen up your graphic a remove wrinkles.

WARNING: Do not machine wash fabric prints that have blockout liners sewn in. Do not dry clean dye-sublimated fabric graphics.

Bonus

If you find the cleaned area dries with a noticeable spot, use a clean, wet cloth rag or towel and rub the spot and the area around the spot in a gentle circular motion to create a feathering effect which will diminish the appearance of the original spotted area after the fabric dries again.

Graphics may be steamed or steam ironed to remove wrinkles.
